Our Story

The Bragg Creek and Greater Area Historical Society

Beautiful Bragg Creek is located in a picturesque corner of the Alberta foothills in the Elbow River watershed. Known for its well established and maintained trail system, providing recreational opportunities for mountain bikers, hikers and cross country skiers, many are unaware of the rich and varied history of the area.

In 2013, a group of residents recognised the need for a historical society that would accurately record and preserve the history of the area and provide educational opportunities for locals and visitors alike. And so, the Bragg Creek and Greater Area Historical Society was officially established in 2014.

The greater area encompasses Millarville, Priddis and Kew to the south, Kananaskis Country (formerly Bow-Crow Forest) to the west, Jumping Pound to the north and Tsuut’ina Nation (now to the north) and to the east.

A volunteer board of directors oversees the many activities of the Society including the publication of educational historical articles, special community events and an informative guest speaker series. Books and physical items of historical interest and significance are preserved and catalogued in the Society’s library collection.

Bragg Creek and Greater Area Historical Society provides accurate information on local history.
